I'm trying to get this camcorder, but at the moment its hard to find a place online that will ship it internationally (since im in NZ). I've found one or two but their price for the item is $100 more expensive (non-converted) then the rest.

I'm looking for a good HDV camcorder that under or around $1000 dollars.?

Anyone know of any? i don't care if it's used or new. I'd love something similar but obviously not up to par with the Sony HVR-HD1000E. i can go to $1,200 but thats as high as I'd like to go for now.

NYC fan is right - the only other choice in your range is the Sony HDR-HC9.

The HV40 can do 24p; the HC9 can do zero light capture with its built-in infrared emitter.

Both have a 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo audio in jack and manual audio control.
Both have a thumbwheel that is shared among a few features (like zoom, focus, etc.)
Both have a 37mm lens filter diameter and nearly 1/3" single CMOS imaging chip system. And if you comare this to the HVR-HD1000, you will find this is the same. The only different being the HD1000 is a shoulder mount. So... Invest in a shoulder mount system (like a SpiderBrace) and be done with it.

Best video camera to use for upcoming baby?

I will using the camcorder to record our baby when she is born in about a month.

I have it down to two or three choices:

Panasonic hdc-sd60k $449 at best buy

Canon hf-m300 $349.99 at Best buy

The Flip 2 hour 8gb 4th edition $199.99 at best buy

I have to buy at bestbuy because we have about $350 worth of gift cards there.

I have been leaning towards the panasonic because I read some nice reviews on it and plus they said it was the 2nd best video camera for 2010. Although the other two video cameras are much cheaper especially the flip.

I have heard that the flip isn't that much better than a regular camera when shooting videos. I was scared off by this because we currently have a cannon sd1300 that also has video shooting capabilities.

I am thinking why buy a flip when my point and shoot camera can do the same thing and save the $200. Anybody with a flip that can clear this up would be greatly appreciated!

Canon makes better video HD cameras than Panasonic. In addiition, the $350 price tag is the best bang for the buck.

You can use RCA cables (those red, white and yellow cables) to connect you camcorder to your VCR. Connect as output from the camcorder and connect to the input of your VCR. Play the tape on your camcorder while recording on your VCR

mini dv tapes are acting weird?

i have a brand new jvc gr-d770 mini dv camcorder from walmart and i bought these panasonic tapes and i recorded over one tape like 4 times and it starts to have a clicking noise in the background when i play the tape back, i pop in a new tape and the noise is gone, so i came to the conclusion that i need to get a different brand next time or is this a common thing with tapes?

I've never had that issue because I've never recorded over a tape that many times.

Tape is cheap, just always buy new ones.

The best miniDV tapes are Sony Premiums (they come in blue plastic).

Camcorder recommendations for a 1st Timer?

I am looking to buy a good quality camcorder to use mostly to capture friends, family and big events.

As comparison for what I am looking for, my digital camera can take film, but only in 15-25 second bursts, with grainy at best sound and quite dodgy lighting. So, in essence, I would like a camcorder with good picture quality (even in the dark, if possible), large memory space (would accept discs, but I would rather have memory cards), good sound capture and zoom capabilities.

Any recommendations? I favour Sony and Canon, though any other brands would be considered.

Got this at a garage sale. A JVC GR-AX5 camcorder from the 90s that records on Compact VHS-tapes. It powers on and records. It came with a battery charger, manuals, and a brand new JVC film tape (only one). I don't know much else about this camcorder. If you know something, please comment
